James Piatt - One Poem

Too Soon

Too soon
He arrives
That clever
Pickpocket
Of time,

Too soon
Years
Melt into the past, and
Turn to countless
Decades,

Too soon
Tight skin wilts,
Velvety smoothness
Gathers lines, and
Hair turns gray,

Too soon
The Sun shines
Less brightly,
The days and
Months fade away,

Too soon
Life ends.

James earned his BS and MA from California State Polytechnic University, and a doctorate from Brigham Young University. He has had over one hundred and twenty poems of different styles published in dozens of print and electronic poetry magazines, journals and anthologies. Some of his work recently appeared in "Sing Now, America!" from Virgogray Press.
