Twenty First
Century Poems
So
you want your poems
on
videos
on
YouTube
and
on Instagram
So
you want your poems
shouted
out
across
the airwaves
in
an agitated voice
no
soft tones and flowery verse
Words
no longer can stand on their own
unless
accompanied by
a
graphic image
as
if adding a picture
gives
validity to the words
words
have lost their power
without
a gimmick
When
did poems stop
painting
their own pictures
instead
of just playing
a
supportive role
to
technology
Artists
have always
embraced
the innovative
but
should that diminish
the
worth of the classics
The
hi-tech world has taken over
leaving
many behind
it
is the sad truth
that
a good poem
can
no longer stand
on
its words alone
is
this what poetry has come to
So
you want your poems

on
YouTube
and
on Instagram
