Ben Burr - Two Poems

Experiments with Meditation (14)

I am too easily bored
to ever become devout.
My mind races, searches
among the eons, collecting
the breath of each generation,
recycling through my body,
turning the beautiful energy
into some cosmic mindscape.
And it is in this world,
this world of allowance,
that the subdued light
of being can be seen
in its total, vibrant magnificence.

Untitled

Sitting in the silence
of my thought-filled mind,
the little prayers gather,
waiting in line for consideration.
Each one, either white or black,
breathes through my lungs
out into the gray world.
The conflict of sin
pounds in a timid heart
as if some far off angel
whispers my name.

Ben Burr lives in East Nashville, Tennessee.
